Cactus Foothills Falls to Their First Loss

The Cactus Foothills Girls Softball team suffered their first loss against Oregon.  Giving up 2 runs in the first, 4 in the second and 5 in the 6th proved too much.  CF scored 1 in the 3rd and looked like their were fighting back hard and came withing 2 runs in the 5th.

Savannah Gatson was in the circle for the entire game, having 5 K's and 4 BB and gave up 8 hits. Gatson lead the team with 2 hits in 3 AB,  and 1 HBP.  The bats just didn't come alive like last game.  The girls did have some great defensive plays.  Like an unassisted double play by Zoe Sferruzza in the top of th 6th to end the inning.

There was a delay because of the new Mandatory Play rule.  The CF manager still had 2 players who needed to get in the game in the first 3 batting positions in the bottom of the 5th and they were in the top of the 5th.  It seemed like the umpire or scorer's had an issue and may have thought he needed to get them in sooner.  It took a little time, but it was ironed out.  The staff and umpires are pretty good by this level.  The new rule has probably the most severe penalty I've ever seen in LL.  If the manager fails to meet the mandatory play, the Manager is removed for the remainder of the tournament.  He may not be replaced either.  Just shows how committed LL is to "everybody plays."  With 13 or 14 players, the rule is only one at bat.

So, as I say, just more games to play and more fun for the team.  The will play NoCal at 4pm Wednesday.  Should they win, the next game will be 9am Thursday.
